About Us: History of Hopewell Christian Church
| In 1933, members of Custer Drive Union Church wanted to start a branch church
in Hopewell. They leased a house for a temporary church on Alexis Road. The dedication was November 5, 1933, with
Reverend Harry Schuster, pastor.
In 1934, partitions were installed in the house next door for Sunday School classes. |
1935

Reverend Carl Gable replaced Reverend Schuster. |
1936
|
The house that was used for the church was sold. Services were held in Hopewell School for the summer. When school started, services were held in a garage near the school. |
1937
|
A dance hall was purchased for $170 for lumber, to build the new church. By the end of the year, the corner blocks were laid on the two lots that the church had puchased earlier. |
1938
|
The basement was built and wood covered cement blocks were used for pews. |
1939
|
Evening services began. |
1941
|
Church basement was dedicated & was almost destroyed by fire that same year. |
